The Nats have interest in a minor-league deal for the outfielder.

The Nationals have interest in free-agent outfielder Angel Pagan, according to a report from FOX’s Ken Rosenthal. Washington would prefer to give the veteran a minor-league deal.

Pagan, 35, is one of the top remaining free agents on a market that also includes veteran outfielders Coco Crisp, Jeff Francoeur, Nolan Reimold and Sam Fuld. Pagan has drawn some interest from the Blue Jays and Royals at points this offseason, but has been squeezed out of those opportunities due to bigger signings by both clubs.

Washington has a variety of outfield depth options, with recent signee Adam Lind joining Michael A. Taylor and Chris Heisey behind starters Bryce Harper, Adam Eaton and Jayson Werth. Pagan has primarily appeared in center throughout his career, but saw time in left field last season as well.

Pagan was a 1.0-WAR player in 129 games for the Giants a year ago, hitting .277/.331/.418 with 12 homers and 15 steals. He spent the last five years with San Francisco after stints with the Cubs and Mets.
